How to Avoid the 5 Most Common Mistakes While Traveling to Bangkok

By Jack Yang / March 14, 2018

If you take a close look at the long list of mistakes that are committed by travelers who visit Thailand, it will certainly remind you of the fact that everyone has to start at a new place to learn the intricacies of a new destination. We have questioned many travelers who have been to Bangkok for the first time and who’ve committed all such mistakes only to learn a lesson from them.

From where to stay to what to pay, there are several recurring mistakes which are committed by the wide-eyed tourists during their first visit to Bangkok. Here are few you should be aware of.

Mistake #1: Packing too many clothes

This tip is easier said than done because someone who visits Bangkok for the first time will be elated to carry their best clothes. Yes, Bangkok has got the best shopping destinations and hence it makes sense that you pack light and later on buy all of those clothes once you arrive at the Bangkok market.

Mistake #2: Not getting adequate coverage on travel insurance

It is a big blunder to travel without travel insurance, regardless of the place you’re traveling to. Would you want to return back with a burden of debt after your vacation? Though there are several loans for bad credit borrowers as well, it is always better to be safe than sorry. Speak to your insurance carrier and get the minimum coverage before setting out for the trip.

Mistake #3: Underestimating the infamous traffic of Bangkok

You can’t imagine the gridlock caused by Bangkok’s rush hour traffic. Ensure leaving yourself with enough time when you’re traveling from one place to another, particularly when you’re at the airport. You can afford to miss your dinner plan but if you miss your connecting flight, that will be a real pain. The BTS of the Bangkok Skytrain keeps improving its performance and this is why it is often recommended as the best way to travel downtown.

Mistake #4: Choosing to ignore the intense heat and sun

There are many people who are lazy enough to just lounge around the pool area of the hotel but if you make the mistake of pushing too early for a tan, you could possibly burn your skin so hard that you could look like a lobster for the rest of your trip. Make sure you always use sunscreen and gradually reduce its usage when you get a nice basic tan on your body.

Mistake #5: Not spending enough time!

If you’re always having the hurry of visiting the beaches, you will end up giving just one night at the capital of Thailand. This is not enough time to witness all the beautiful things Bangkok has to offer you. The world-class shopping, dining areas, partying hubs and the cosmopolitan night life are something that you should definitely enjoy in Bangkok. So, spend a couple of nights here.

As long as you keep your wits, Bangkok will always be a safe city for you. There are quite a lot of tourist scams and pickpockets in the city, though, so be sure to read up on how to avoid them.

During your first time in the city, don’t stick to eating mall meals and seeping in the culture of western pubs. Look beyond that and you will definitely find things that are more remarkable.
